Abstract
Introduction. Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a clonal myeloproliferative disease in which a chimeric BCR-ABL gene with tyrosine kinase activity is formed as a result of specific translocation of areas between chromosomes 9 and 22. The state of metabolism of lactic and pyruvic acids in blood plasma of patients with CML requires thorough study.
Aim. To explore the main biochemical parameters characterizing the state of metabolism of lactic and pyruvic acids in the blood plasma of patients with CML at the stages of the course of the disease for the theoretical justification of approaches to the correction of the detected changes.
Materials and methods. Data on the study of biochemical parameters characterizing the state of metabolism of lactic and pyruvic acids in the blood plasma of 77 patients with CML at different stages of the course of the disease are presented. The groups of patients were similar in terms of age, sex, and duration of the disease. All patients during hospitalization were examined using clinical, laboratory, instrumental and special research methods, and if necessary, specialists of related specialties were consulted. The control group is represented by 20 primary donors. The content of lactic and pyruvic acids in the plasma of peripheral venous blood was determined according to the method of V.S. Asatiana. (1969). Statistical processing of the obtained results was carried out using the methods of variational statistics using the Microsoft Excel XP computer program.
Results. The results of the study of biochemical parameters characterizing the state of metabolism of lactic and pyruvic acids in the blood plasma of patients with CML are presented. It was established that as CML progresses, the imbalance in the metabolism of lactic and pyruvic acids in the blood plasma of patients deepens. The concentration of PVA and LA in the blood is informative laboratory evidence of the adequacy of blood supply and tissue oxygenation. The LA: PVA ratio is important. It was established that in patients with CML, the concentration of PVA and LA in the blood increases significantly at the stage of blast crisis, compared to patients in the chronic and acceleration phase (p<0,05).
The article discusses possible pathophysiological mechanisms of the detected changes.
Conclusions. As CML progresses, the imbalance of biochemical indicators characterizing the metabolic state of lactic and pyruvic acids in the blood plasma of patients with CML deepens.
